2026 Program Timeline

For 2026, the LFN Mentorship Program will accept up to 2 funded project proposals. Additional unpaid mentorships may also be accepted. Mentee applications and scheduling will be managed through the LFX Mentorship Platform.

Project Proposals
  • Project proposals are currently open. Mentors may submit proposals on the wiki at any time.

  • Mentorship project proposals

  • Project TSCs will review and approve submitted proposals.

  • The LFN TAC will review and approve the final mentorship projects (up to 2 funded for 2026; additional unpaid mentorships may also be approved).

Mentee Applications
  • Once a project proposal has been accepted and published on the LFX Mentorship Platform, mentees may apply through the portal.

  • Application windows, deadlines, and mentee selection will be managed within the LFX Mentorship Platform.

  • See the LFX Mentorship documentation for details on how to create a mentee profile and apply.

After Selection
  • Top mentee candidates are identified and announced via the LFX Mentorship Platform.

  • Selected mentees will complete HR contracting paperwork coordinated by @Casey Cain and the Linux Foundation.

All program dates are subject to change. Specific start dates, evaluation dates, and end dates will be published on the LFX Mentorship Platform for each accepted project.

Mentee Schedule Options

Full-time: 40 hours per week for 12 consecutive weeks. This option is recommended for students who are available during the summer months and are capable of dedicating to a full-time schedule.

  • Week 1: Official start

  • Week 6: Midterm Evaluation (for funded mentorships, the midterm stipend is paid to mentees making satisfactory progress)

  • Week 12: Final Evaluation (for funded mentorships, the final stipend is paid upon successful completion as confirmed by the mentor and program staff)

Part-time: 20 hours per week for 24 consecutive weeks. This option is recommended for students who are in school or have other significant commitments for the duration of the program.

  • Week 1: Official start

  • Week 8: Initial Evaluation

  • Week 14: Midterm Evaluation (for funded mentorships, the midterm stipend is paid to mentees making satisfactory progress)

  • Week 24: Final Evaluation (for funded mentorships, the final stipend is paid upon successful completion as confirmed by the mentor and program staff)

Mentorships labeled as Unpaid follow the same evaluation schedule but do not include a stipend. See the main program page for details on stipend structure.
