LFN Community Badges

This page captures the initial draft of recommended badges for those that participate in the LFN community.  These badges are intended as publicly visible recognition of participation to recognize the community and encourage further participation.

Badges will be issued on an annual basis based on participation within the past 12 months.

General information for Badges must include:

  • Badge Name

  • Description

  • Criteria for badge – must be quantifiable/automatable and easy for staff to generate the badges

Project-Level Badges

NOTE: all project-level badges will be branded for that project.  For example "ONAP Contributor Badge" or "Anuket Committer Badge".

[Project] Contributor Badge 

The [Project] Contributor badge recognizes those individuals who have contributed in some way to one of the LFN projects within the past year.  This could include code contributions, documentation contributions, testing, etc.  

Criteria:  Use each community's definition of a contributor (TSC voting criteria per the committer representative discussions).

[Project] Committer Badge 

The [Project] Committer badges recognizes those individuals who have achieved committer status on an LFN project within the past year.  This recognition acknowledges the efforts of those committers in dedicating their time & skills to these projects and displaying their personal eminence.

Criteria:  Committer status within an LFN project

[Project] 100 Commits Badge 

The [Project] Committer badges recognizes those individuals who have made more than 100 commits on an LFN project within the past year.  This recognition acknowledges the efforts of those committers in dedicating their time & skills to these projects and displaying their personal eminence.

Criteria:  100 commits within an LFN project within the past year

[Project] Leader Badge

The [Project] Leader badge recognizes those individuals who have played a leadership role in one of the LFN projects within the past year.  Such roles include TSC members and project subcommittee leaders.

Criteria: TSC member, Project Subcommittee leader, and other roles as determined by the LFN Project's TSC

[Project] PTL Badge

The [Project] PTL badge recognizes those individuals who have lead a subproject of an LFN project within the past year.  The PTLs are the backbone of projects & dedicate substantial time and effort to the success of these projects.  

Criteria: PTL role

LFN Level Badges

LFN Leader Badge

The LFN Leader badge recognizes those individuals who have played a leadership role in the LFN within the past year.  Such roles might include participation in LFN-wide committees (TAC, MAC, SPC, LFN Governing Board) or participation in major cross-community activities (Super Blueprints).

Criteria:  TAC/MAC/SPC/Gov Board members, other cross-community efforts as determined by the TAC.

LFN Mentee Badge

The LFN Mentee badge recognizes those individuals who have completed a project within the LFN Mentorship Program.  These programs offer a structured hands-on learning opportunity for new developers who may otherwise lack the opportunity to gain exposure to open source software development and entry to the LFN projects' technical communities.  This badge acknowledges their successful contributions to the LFN

Criteria: Successful completion of an LFN Mentorship Project

LFN Mentor Badge

The LFN Mentor badge recognizes those individuals who have committed themselves to mentoring one or more new developers through the LFN Mentorship Program.  This badge acknowledges that the mentor has gone above-and-beyond in strengthening the LFN communities while also growing new talent.

Criteria: Proposing an LFN Mentorship Project & acting as mentor through its completion
