  • Latency is the main issue, the why FPGA is mandated in Fronthaul ( 50-100 usec /tested) , in the mid-haul in msec

  • List down all function that required for FPGA ( vRAN use case ) 

    • DU processes RLC, MAC and Hi-PHY layer. For Hi-PHY processing, FPGA accelerators are used for enhancing performance. If used, the FPGA is used for FEC offload at L1. For 5G NR, PHY is offloaded to the FPGA 

    • Real Time Signal Processing Task

    • Forward Error Correction (FEC) : Turbo/LDPC/Polar

    • Fronthaul Acceleration & Conversion

    • Telemetry ( latency ) 

  • CNTT can have FPGA in the transition period without obligation toward the operator to use it

  • AAL form O-RAN it will be a target to have a single abstraction layer for all acceleration tech.

  •  for the new profile: the name "Edge profile" , covers many uses cases over the edge starting with vRAN

  • For RA01 & RA02 , it will not new Arch, it will be tweaking of the normal arch to be fit at the edge and can be covered in subchapter/chapter in RA01&RA02
