Latency is the main issue, the why FPGA is mandated in Fronthaul ( 50-100 usec /tested) , in the mid-haul in msec
List down all function that required for FPGA ( vRAN use case )
DU processes RLC, MAC and Hi-PHY layer. For Hi-PHY processing, FPGA accelerators are used for enhancing performance. If used, the FPGA is used for FEC offload at L1. For 5G NR, PHY is offloaded to the FPGA

CNTT can have FPGA in the transition period without obligation toward the operator to use it
AAL form O-RAN it will be a target to have a single abstraction layer for all acceleration tech.
for the new profile: the name "Edge profile" , covers many uses cases over the edge starting with vRAN
For RA01 & RA02 , it will not new Arch, it will be tweaking of the normal arch to be fit at the edge and can be covered in subchapter/chapter in RA01&RA02
